Selecting Drives and Applying Gauges

The selection checkbox, the leftmost column in the Drive List (by default) and highlighted in the figure below with the green arrows, controls the following options:

  • Whether or not a drive's gauge is updated automatically (if automatic updating is enabled)
  • Whether or not a drive's backup icon is restored when the Restore button is clicked
  • Whether or not a drive's gauge is applied when the Apply button is clicked
  • Whether or not a drive's options are able to be changed
  • Whether or not a drive is included in the Growl notifications

Checked indicates that a the drive should be used and unchecked means it will be ignored.

These selections are automatically saved when DriveGauge quits along with all the other settings (such as those found in the Options Drawer, which are saved on a per-drive basis.)

To apply a gauge to a drive's icon use the following steps:

1. Authenticate to be allowed to change any settings
2. Check the selection next to its name (a checkmark indicates it will be used.)
3. Choose its appropriate icon type from the popup menu (these include: hard drive, fire wire drive, iPod, iDisk, current icon, backup icon, or a custom icon [.icns only])
4. Change any options as desired in the Options Drawer
5. Click Apply, as highlighted by the blue arrow in the figure
6. Relaunch the Finder if necessary

Tip: In Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther" clicking on a drive's icon in the Finder (on the Dekstop) will typically refresh it so relaunching isn't normally necessary.
