Authenticating

Authentication is required because changing a volume's icon is a permanent effect (barring a successful restore) that affects all users on a computer or of a external drive that has a gauge applied to it. To authenticate and authorize yourself click the Lock/Unlock button at the bottom left corner of the Drive List window, as highlighted in the figures below, which illustrate the locked and unlocked states of DriveGauge, or via the Dock and File menu items.

A standard name and password authentication dialog will pop up and you can enter your password and proceed. You will be authenticated throughout your DriveGauge session until quitting unless you de-authenticate by clicking the lock or menu item once more. All controls in the Drive List, Options Drawer, and window will be disabled outside of the Authenticate button and the Options Drawer toggle button and likewise for any menu items representing the same functionality.

Tip: DriveGauge does not support authenticating as a root user. Please use DriveGauge from a user account.
