Preferences Explained
Below is a list of Preferences, organized by tab, as they appear in the Preferences window. Preferences are not typically set until the "Apply" button is pressed (see Tip for further details.)
General
.Mac
- Enable .Mac integration - turns .Mac features on or off
- Use current user's .Mac information - uses the account information
from the .Mac preferences in System Preferences
- Open .Mac Preferences... - opens System Preferences and the .Mac
pane
- Automatically begin uploads - starts an upload as soon as it
is added to the Uploads window or the preceeding item finishes
uploading
- Close Uploads window when finished - automatically close Uploads
once the final upload finishes
Growl
- Use Growl notifications for completed actions - shows a Growl
notification when a comparison or upload finishes
- Open Growl Preferences...
- opens System Preferences and the Growl pane
Advanced
- Auto reset - automatically resets the selected folders after a comparision has finished (see Tip)
-
Compare application contents - by default this option is off; developers may find it useful to compare their applications, but not typically, and enabling this option will significantly increase the amount of time a comparison takes if a number of applications are compared (since applications can have literally thousands of different files inside)
-
Item size* - this sets the size of each entry (row) in the lists in the Results tabs. Three options are available: Small (18 pixels), Medium (40 pixels) [default], Large (80 pixels)
-
Item count - shows the number of items for
a category or the folder in the category. Four options are available:
Not Visible, Tabs Only, Tabs and Results, Results Only.
-
Show in Finder uses - this allows you to choose which application is used for this Item Action, allowing Path Finder interaction if it's installed.
(if you choose Path Finder and it's not available then it will take a few seconds for the system to pass this along to the Finder)
Uninstall
- List Files to be Removed... - shows a list of files that
the uninstall will delete.
- "Remove All Compare Folders-Related Files" - performs the uninstall actions as detailed in Uninstalling Compare Folders.
Tip: Preferences don't take effect until the "Apply" button is clicked, except in the case of auto-compare! |
Tip: If auto-reset is turned on you can't Get Info for an item (since it's path has been reset) |
* - indicates this only takes effect the next time Compare Folders is launched, not during the current session.
