Inspecting an Item

Compare Folders includes an Item Inspector that allows you to edit an item's different properties such as its name, extension, comments, and whether or not it's locked. The Item Inspector, once opened, will automatically update when you select an item to allow you instant access to anything you need to change.

The Item Inspector allows you to rename an item or to change its extension, although it will ask you to confirm this since it could make the file unable to be opened. The lock allows you to easily change whether an item can be modified or not. The comments field allows you to view and edit Finder comments and will automatically set this when you add or remove a comment for a file or folder. A locked item cannot be fully inspected, only comments can be changed.

This feature is available from the Inspect toolbar item or the "Show in Inspector" menu item under the Actions menu or via contextual menu.

Tip: Compare Folders will automatically remember, and restore, the Item Inspector if you have it open when you quit.
