Maintenance Note - potential (brief) downtime

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Just wanted to note for the readers out there that a bit of downtime may be possible over the course of the early morning hours (3/25-3/26) while I perform some backend upgrades. I’ll be updating WordPress to the current 2.0.2 release and after that I’ll be tweaking the template a little. It should be straightforward and painless, but forewarned is forearmed, right? :)

Update: As expected, it was totally painless and in the process The iNexus has gained a snazzy search field (in Safari) and RSS feeds for comments [along with a raft of other WordPress improvements]

What’s going on for a while…

So, the public beta has been going well (I think) and feedback from each release has made the next that much better. Bugs I might have missed or features that aren’t quite up to expectations have been noted and I’ve not only been adding them to the list but fixing quite a few…

A couple of notable bugs

Friday, March 17th, 2006

As I continue working on Compare Folders 2.5 since the release of Public Beta 2 I’ve run across a couple of new bugs that I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention.

B 54. Enable state for .mac is screwed up (again, different way now)

This is easy to tell - turn on .Mac, Apply the prefs, and then re-open the preferences. The checkbox for enabled is never checked, even though CF will adjust appropriately.

B 55. Attempting to upload items without icons enabled causes an error

This is also easy to tell - attempt to upload an item when the comparison was run without showing icons. The item will not upload and the iDisk Uploads window won’t become visible.

Neither is a complete showstopper, as they can be easily worked around as noted (by showing icons or checking CF to see if it knows .Mac is enabled.)

Compare Folders 2.5 Public Beta 2 Released!

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

I’m pleased to announce that Compare Folders 2.5, which has been in Public Beta over the past few months, is receiving it’s first beta refresh, Public Beta 2!

This update includes not only a large number of your standard bugfixes and polish but also several new features including results resetting, a redesigned iDisk Uploads window, and much more. Head on over to the Compare Folders site, download the new beta (and read the release notes), and use our feedback systems built into CF to let us know what you’d like to see.

If you were daring enough to follow the link to find out what this meant you’ve come to the right spot - a preview of Compare Folders 2.6 is below. I just couldn’t resist posting this screen up, as it made my day.

CFIntel1.png

That little string inside of the () says it all - Compare Folders 2.6 will be a Universal Binary, running natively on Intel Macs as well as the “old” Macs [like the one it’s developed on right now *cough*] Say goodbye to the wonder of Rosetta and hello to the new world order :)

Now that we’ve covered the exciting, great news… on to the facts/obvious. The primary fact - it’s for 2.6, so it’s not going to be out tomorrow or any day (immediately) soon. The primary obviousness - it’s just started (as of an hour ago) and thus it’s a bit buggy, rough around the edges, and generally not as great as the original… yet. I’m going to keep plugging away on that while I work on rounding out the remainder of the polish for 2.5, but I wanted to show some proof that updates are in progress for those shiny Intel Macs.
